With a 6-point split separating 1st through 5th in points, DJ Canipe came into the twin-50 Tri County weekend carrying a narrow margin out front of a tenacious field of Limited Late Model competitors.
Entering the 1st race of two 50-lappers, Canipe stayed focused on the big picture: win the championship. To no surprise, DJ took the lead early and went straight to victory lane which allowed him to open up a slight advantage going into race 2.
Starting the 2nd race in 3rd, Canipe maintained confidence in his DHR equipment and played a conservative strategy to survive the next set of 50 laps. By halfway in the race, he had worked his way up to second, applying moderate pressure to the leader. Instead of pushing the issue, DJ decided to keep his cool to ride the remaining laps out in the 2nd position and secure his back-to-back championships in the Southeast Limited Late Models following post-race technical inspection. The On The Go Quick Lube & Tires Toyota of DJ Canipe for Dwight Huffman Racing claimed two victories on the 2021 season in route to his second career Late Model championship title.
