Clark Houston to Honor Grandfather, Tommy Houston, in CARS Tour Debut

Entering a career day for his first CARS Tour start, what better way to join the series than by recognizing a famous paint scheme from the 90's? That's exactly what Clark Houston and the Dwight Huffman Racing team have in store this weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway for the CARS Tour #Throwback276.

The Alps Mtn. Affordable Hearing Aids #6 Pro Late Model will carry colors formerly driven in 1990-1991 by Tommy Houston in the Busch Grand National Series. This scheme is one that's seen lots of success in the Houston family, and Clark looks to carry on the family tradition Saturday night.

"I can’t thank Alps Mtn Affordable Hearing of Hickory enough for letting us do this, and Duck Graphics for making it look just like it did in 1990!"

We caught up with Ashley Huffman, owner of DHR, to get his take on bringing back the famous Roses #6 scheme in the CARS Tour at a track that couldn't be more historic for the Houston and Huffman family than Hickory Motor Speedway.

"I’m really excited to be making our CARS Tour debut this weekend at Hickory, and it makes it extra special to be able to do it with Clark driving a throwback paint scheme honoring his grandfather, Tommy Houston. I remember back in '93 watching Andy [Houston] win his first Late Model Stock race, I won my first UARA race there in 2004. Hickory is a special place that holds a lot of memories of the past and is still making those memories for generations to come."
Ashley Huffman

"I don’t know if anyone has as much history at Hickory Speedway as our two families do," continued Huffman. "My grandfather had cars racing at Hickory starting in the 50’s, and I’m pretty sure there was a Houston racing there during that time as well."

This isn't Clark's first trip to Hickory, though. In May, Houston picked up a win with the Southeast Super Trucks, and he raced in the 2021 Fall Brawl Limited Late Model portion in November. This is a place where Clark essentially grew up at. The Houston name is historic around grassroots short-track racing, and especially at a track like Hickory with Dwight Huffman Racing.
